Cool!

The Geek pointed out this Ars Technica article. I must admit I had never thought about the hideous power demands of data centres, and it's great to see such intelligent responses to the problem, using passive methods. The permies strike again!

note on the first page. microsoft's new data centre uses 48 megawatts, enough power for 40000 homes - a reasonably sized small city, maybe a little smaller than Wollongong. Reducing power consumption by managing the centre's cooling needs becomes a real design issue
